Mtg ruling help needed.?

I'm pretty sure I was right, but I wanted to make sure. If my opponent plays rain of powers, after it resolves and we move on to cOmbat. I activate mimic vat to put a token of a creature into play. He is trying to tell me that rain of powers will have the creature under his control instead.
